February 5 , 2017
Knocking Air India’s longest scheduled flight, Qatar Airways has launched the world's longest scheduled commercial service that flew its inaugural flight from Doha to Auckland.
The flight will cover a distance of 14,539 kilometre over close to 18-hours. The Flight QR920 left Doha at 05:02 (local time) and is scheduled to land in New Zealand at 07:30 (local time on Monday). In a span of 16 hours and 20 minutes, the Boeing 777 flight will pass over 10 time zones and five countries before reaching Auckland.
The return flight will take 17 hours and 30 minutes, due to high-altitude winds, according to the company website. This will make it the world's longest passenger service in terms of flying time.
Earlier Air India had the record of longest flight bound between Delhi and San Francisco covering 15127km over 15-hour. This new flight has also relegated Emirates' Dubai-Auckland flight to third place.
