Qantas axes fuel surcharge but raises base fares
January 27 , 2015
Qantas, the Australian carrier, is scrapping fuel surcharges on its international tickets, but it will increase the base fair instead, media reports said.
Fares will not change as the surcharge will be "absorbed" into the base fare, the airline said on Tuesday.
With falling oil prices, there have been calls to the airline industry to reduce fares. Qantas, however, said air fares were lower compared to the time when the surcharge was first introduced.
