Picasso's painting, Giacometti's sculpture set new auction records

  • Picasso’s 'Women of Algiers' has broken the record to become the most expensive painting ever sold at an auction, going for a whopping $179.3 million in New York.

    After 11 minutes of bidding from buyers on telephone, the final sale at Christie’s was substantially higher than the pre-sale prediction of $140 million.

    Another record was broken when Alberto Giacometti’s sculpture 'Pointing Man' sold for $141.3 million, making it the most expensive sculpture to sell at an auction.
