'Perfect' diamond sells for $22mn at Sotheby's
April 22 , 2015
A flawless 100-carat diamond has sold for over $22 million at a New York auction. The classic emerald-cut diamond was sold at Sotheby’s.
Describing it as the very “definition of perfection”, Gary Schuler, who heads Sotheby’s jewelry department in New York, said that the diamond was “free of any internal imperfections”.
Mined in southern Africa, the diamond is one of just five such “perfect" diamonds sold at auction in the past 25 years.
