Mozilla to place ads onto browser

  • Mozilla surprisingly announced that it will soon place tiled advertisements in its Firefox browser. The non-profit company makes 97 percent of its revenue from search and this move appears to be a way of diversifying its earnings.

ZDNet reports that Mozilla's contract with Google is expected to be renewed in December and the new ads could give it the ability to prepare other ways of making revenue without Google.

Other browsers such as Chrome and Safari don't show ads to users as of yet.
