Greece crisis: EU leaders gather in Brussels for emergency summit
June 22 , 2015
Europe’s leaders are gathering in Brussels for an emergency summit that could decide whether a breakthrough in Greece’s debt deadlock is possible.
Ahead of the summit, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras announced new proposals in a bid to prevent his country from defaulting on an IMF loan. Greece has to repay the loan by the end of June or it risks facing a spiral of unpredictable consequences that may even lead to its exit from EU.
The international lenders, European Central Bank, the IMF, and European Commission want Greece to commit to a further set of economic reforms before releasing bailout money.
