Germany: Train drivers go on strike again; major disruptions expected
May 19 , 2015
Germany’s train drivers are going on strike again, the ninth such strike in less than a year.
Trade union leaders said that the strike would be longer than the previous five-day one.
The GDL union wants a 5% pay hike for 20,000 Deutsche Bahn drivers and a reduced working week. The union is seeking to negotiate on behalf of conductors, restaurant employees, and other train staff as well.
The strike is expected to cause major disruptions as around 5.5 million Germans use train services daily.
