Fitch maintains France's AAA credit rating
December 15 , 2012
Fitch has maintained the French government's AAA credit rating.
Fitch is the only major ratings agency left to say the country deserves to keep the top rating.
Rivals Moody's downgraded France in November while Standard & Poor's cut its rating in January.
However, Fitch has maintained its negative outlook, suggesting France could be downgraded soon.
Only Germany has a AAA rating from all three agencies in the eurozone along with the United Kingdom.
A country's credit rating can affect its borrowing costs because investors are often restricted from lending to borrowers that do not have a high rating.
