Diageo to invest $1.5 billion in whiskey production

  • Drinks group Diageo is to pump in around $1.5 billion in Scotch whisky production over the next five years in a bid to meet surging demand from the emerging markets of Asia, Latin America and Africa.

    The maker of Johnnie Walker and Bells whisky said it plans to build a new malt distillery as well as expand the number of its other distilleries.

    The group is the largest producer of Scotch whisky with around a third of the market share courtesty of increasing demand from China, Brazil, Russia and India.

    Diageo said its investment will also create 250 construction jobs and generate a further 500 jobs at its plants and across the wider Scottish economy.
