Comedian raises $125K for atheist Oklahoma family
January 1 , 2014
Stand-up comedian Doug Stanhope, who often drinks and smokes on stage, has come to the aid of a family in Oklahoma.
The family's house was destroyed by a tornado this year and one of its members revealed in a live television interview that she was an atheist.
Stanhope mentioned that it "took some nuts" to admit that since saying you're an atheist in the region is the same as using the word "Jihad" at an airport. Hence, Stanhope raised $125,760 through a campaign known as "Atheists Unite" but admitted the gesture wasn't really for the family but because he wanted to be a "prick" to their "Okie Christian neighbors."
