Australia: Qantas Airways posts half-yearly profit of $289.3 million
February 26 , 2015
Qantas has posted a half-yearly profit of $289.3 million, its best showing in four years.
The Australian national carrier had posted its largest ever annual loss for the 12 months ending June 31. The new results are therefore being seen as a major turnaround for the firm, which faces tough competition in the domestic as well as international market.
The international division of Qantas reported a profit before tax of A$59 million.
Alan Joyce, the Qantas chief executive, said the company was “meeting or exceeding” all its targets “as we build a sustainable future”.
