Asian Stocks Rise Over Christmas

  • Japanese stocks climbed higher as the yen weakened further at the Nikkei Stock Average. Tokyo dominated the Asian equities scene with the Nikkei Stock Average rallying 1.4%. Japanese investors returned on a positive note after celebrating a three-day weekend long Emperor's Birthday. Taiwan's Taiex gained about 0.2%. A number of other markets are closed till Wednesday or Thursday; these include the exchanges in Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and South Korea. The Shanghai Composite Index closed Monday with a 2.5% hike.
