Apple reports record third quarter figures as iPhone sales soar

Technology giant Apple has reported a record third quarter, with profits boosting from a surge in demand for iPhones. In the three months to June 27, the firm sold 47.5 million iPhones, an increase of 35% from the previous year. Mac computer sales rose 9% to 4.8 million. Tim Cook, Apple's chief executive, described it as an “amazing quarter”. While profits were up by 38% to $10.7 billion, revenues increased by 33% to $49.6 billion.
