French President Macron's La REM Party Expecting Big Win in French Parliamentary Elections
June 18 , 2017
39-year-old former banker and current French President Emmanuel Macron is eyeing for a landslide majority in parliament. Forecasts by pollsters predict that Macron-led La République En Marche (La REM) party is all set to win 70-80 percent of the parliamentary seats in the lower house. However, the election was marred by a record low voter turnout (49 per cent), which the Government spokesperson Christophe Castaner called “a failure of this election”. A landslide majority in the parliament will allow President Emmanuel Macron to implement sweeping social and economic shakeups, which include overhauling of labor rules, job curtailment in public sector, invest billions of euros in renewable energy and job training, and many more.
