Zach Braff raises $1.5 million to make new film

  • Actor and director Zach Braff has raised $1.5 million to fund a follow-up film to his cult directorial debut, Garden State.

More than 20,000 fans donated the amount within 24 hours through a "crowd-sourcing" website.

Wish I Was Here is set to feature Braff as a struggling actor who home-schools his children.

Braff wrote online that he did not want to lose his "artistic control" by signing a deal with a film studio. "I want you to be my financiers and my audience so I can make a movie for you with no compromises," he said to fans.

Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons will co-star in the film.
