Cautious optimism in Europe over Greece's proposed debt deal
February 4 , 2015
European leaders are cautiously welcoming proposals by Greece’s new ministers to strike a debt deal, ahead of crucial talks with creditors.
Italy’s Prime Minister Matteo Renzi said Italy would give “Greece a hand” after meeting the Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, who belongs to the far-left Syriza party that won the elections on an anti-austerity plank.
Reports have indicated that Yanis Varoufakis, the Greek finance minister, is now looking at a compromise formula instead of his earlier stated agenda of having the country’s debt written off.
