Shea Stadium


Shea Stadium, originally known as the William A. Shea Municipal Stadium , in Flushing in New York, America, is one of the major baseball stadiums in the country as well as in the world and acts as the home ground of the New York Mets , a Major League Baseball club. The stadium which mainly hosts baseball matches has been named after William A. Shea , a lawyer who returned the National League baseball back to New York.

Shea Stadium had the ground breaking on the 28 th of October in 1961 and was opened two and a half years later on the 17 th of April, 1964. The expenditures associated with the construction and the opening of the stadium touched a gigantic amount of $28.5 million. The stadium's grandstand encircles the circular ground . The stands are painted blue and white after the colors of the home team. In the area between the stands and the ground are the bullpens , scoreboards and a section of bleachers . The movable stands which can be converted into a football ground, has had the experience of staging a number of sports other than baseball like soccer, football and wrestling . The stadium has also been used a number of times for different occasions other than sports. The Shea Stadium has staged a number of games of the National League Division Series , National League Championship series and World Series of baseball .

The Shea Stadium, slated to be replaced by the Citi Field in 2009 as the home of the New York Mets, is one of the major stadiums of the country. It is also a major venue for a number of tournaments and events.
