Qualcomm Stadium

Qualcomm Stadium , popularly known as The Q , is the home stadium of the San Diego Chargers and the San Diego State University Aztecs college football team . It is a multipurpose stadium in San Diego which was planned by local sportswriter Jack Murphy . The first step towards the construction of the stadium was taken with the passing of a $27 million bond in November 1965. The stadium, which was built in the Brutalist Style , was opened on 20 th of August, 1967 with a match featuring the Chargers.

The Qualcomm Stadium, which was formerly known as the San Diego Stadium and also Jack Murphy Stadium after the name of its founder after he passed away in 1980, was finally named Qualcomm Stadium in 1997. The stadium has an accommodation of 71,500 and has hosted three Super Bowl Games apart from the Major League Baseball matches. The use of the stadium to host the College Bowl games as well as the soccer matches of the CONCACAF Cup , the U.S. Cup and several friendly matches featuring the Mexican national soccer team justifies the phrase “multi-purpose stadium” in its name. It has also been used for conventions, concerts and other events in the past.

The Qualcomm Stadium is one of the best multi-purpose stadiums of the United States of America. The stadium has hosted significant matches and events in the past and is sure to develop into a more significant stadium in near future.
