The city of Birmingham in Alabama is located in the heart of the southeastern region of the United States of America. It is a renowned center, which enjoys significance for a diverse range of subjects like medical research, banking, music, technology, art, engineering and higher education. It is a municipal corporation established under the laws of the State of Alabama. Birmingham is in fact the largest city in the state and ranks 13th among the largest southeastern metropolitan areas. It lies on latitude 33°38' N and longitude 86°50' W. It has a Mayor/ Council form of Government and is one of the 33 separately incorporated municipalities in Jefferson County.
While on your trip to Birmingham, make a visit to the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame located in the historic Carver Theater. Alabama Sports Hall of fame is another interesting place which pays tribute to sport heroes like Jesse Owens, Paul Bryant and Willie Mays. Another significant place is the Alabama Theatre known as the "Showplace of the South". It is the most magnificent and elaborate movie house in this region where one can enjoy the charms of revival films along with concerts and many other interesting events. The Barber Motor Sports Park opened in 2003, which houses the Barber Vintage Motor Sports Museum, is one of its kinds. This Museum has a collection of over 750 motorcycles and 45 cars, which is the largest collection in the United States. Another museum, the Birmingham Museum has an exquisite collection of over 21,000 works of art from all corners of the world, including the precious Beeson Collection of Wedgwood. Located near the Birmingham International Airport is the Southern Museum of Flight, where exhibits cover the huge dimension of time and technology. They range from Wright Brothers’ memorabilia and early 20th century biplanes to modern day jets. Today, Birmingham is more famous for industries like car manufacturing, engineering, finance and tourism.
