Soccer had been the most popular game in West Germany until 1980. In 1954, 1974, 1990 West Germany won the world cup.

Steffi Graf is the other legendary figure in the history of German as well as world tennis. She started her career as a tennis player at a very young age. When she was only 18 years old she became the world number 1 woman tennis player. Steffi is also the winner of Grand Slam. This unquestionable contribution of Steffi and Becker inspired the Germany sports and number of tennis clubs started increasing.
East Germany also gives excessive support to the sports activities. The residents of East Germany use sports for acquisition of worldwide recognition. During the period of 1960s the communist athletes started winning medals for various sports activities. Those Germany sports include track , winter games, field, swimming etc. The secret of the popularity of Germany sports is probably their disciplined life, well organized training procedure and efficient trainers. There is an allegation regarding the German sportsman that they take anabolic steroids (drugs) for increasing their energy level. In 1972 East Germany participated at the Olympics (Munich) as a national team. In 1980 also Germany became the topper in the winter games.
