Habrin Ice Lantern Festival, the largest ice festival of the world, don a all new look this season. The Chinese festival which used to have ice sculptures depicting the Chinese monuments will from this year greet its visitors with Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Phooh and other childhood cartoon characters. The iconic Chinese sculptures of The Great Wall of China, the Forbidden City, the Buddhist mountains have given way to the what is more or less seem to be the Disney theme park as Disney took over the operation rights of the festival from the government.

The tradition of making ice lantens has been running through the various dynasties of China the earliest dating back to the Qing dynasty. Qi Juwei, the organizer of this year's event says "You can't keep putting the same light in the same block of ice".

The entry fee has gone almost double, than the last year. The festival is generating a lot of interest in people, especially the younger generation. Though giving a makeover to the whole festival, the new organizers have preserved the one section - the annual ice sculpture contest - where sculptures from a number of countries participate with their majestic ice sculptures.
