The Quake of the magnitude of 6.3 in the Richter scale struck the Central Italy. The Earthquake has killed at least 20 persons. As per reports many buildings are destroyed in the quake. Rescues operations are underway as many people are feared to traped inside the buildings.
The 6.3-magnitude quake struck at 0130 GMT close to L'Aquila city, 95km north-east of Rome. Tens of thousands of people were out in the streets, according to the mayor of L'Aquila. L'Aquila, located in central Italy, is the capital of the Abruzzo region. Earthquakes are common in the region.
United States Geological Survey has stated that the earthquake occurred as a result of normal faulting on a NW-SE oriented structure in the central Apennines, a mountain belt that runs from the Gulf of Taranto in the south to the southern edge of the Po basin in northern Italy.
