There are many Methods of Forecasting that helps to understand the climatic conditions of the various places across the earth in the forthcoming days. Weather Forecasting is the technology through which the future weather is predicted. The method of forecasting depends firstly upon the amount of information available and secondly on the availability of the equipments necessary for the prediction.
Through weather forecast one gets to know about the climatic conditions of the future days such as if the day would be cloudy or sunny, if the day would be warm or sold, it there would be a rainfall or if there would a storm etc.
There are several Methods of Forecasting such as:
- Persistence Forecasting: This is regarded as the simplest way of forecasting the weather by the meteorologists. In this method it is assumed that the climatic conditions will not remain the same as it was during the time of prediction. This method is applicable during the time of slightest change on weather maps. This type of forecasting is thus used for short term predictions of a day or two.
- Synoptic Forecasting: This is also a method through which a short term observation weather conditions of the forthcoming days are predicted. The forecasts are done through several calculations by keeping a close watch on the conditions of the cloud for the past few days.
- Statistical Forecasting: By observing the old records and calculating the average temperatures, snowfall, and rainfall the meteorologists get an idea of what the weather would be at that time of the year.
- Computer forecasting: Forecasters feed in the numeric in the computers after their thorough observations on the past climatic conditions. The ultra-high-speed computers then run the equations, which forecast the future weather.
The modern Methods of Forecasting include:
- Numerical weather prediction
- Data assimilation
- Data collection
- Model output post-processing
