BBC Weather


BBC weather is separate wing of the British Broadcasting Corporation dealing with weather related forecasts. BBC Weather is telecasted as a part of BBC's main news. Some of the news casters of BBC weather are directly hired from the regional Met Office.

History of BBC Weather

BBC weather was launched on 14 th of November in the year 1922. The first weather forecast was designed as a kind of shipping forecast. The daily weather forecast of BBC weather started its journey in the following year. The R& D division of BBC started experimenting with the weather maps in the year 1936. Weather map of BBC was used for the first time during World War II. The specialty of BBC weather maps lies in their presentations. Weather maps usually cover the entire television screen and the newscaster describes the weather conditions standing at the back of the screen.









Technology Used in BBC Weather

In-vision weather forecast was introduced in 1954. George Cowling was the first to narrate the daily BBC weather standing in front of the weather map. Initially BBC weather used to work with manually drawn weather maps designed by London Weather Center. Following the installation of electronic computer and fax machine in the year 1962, BBC weather started predicting weather conditions more accurately. Introduction of satellite photography made the BBC weather reports far more interesting.
