Internet History

Internet History provides with a detailed explanation of the complete evolutionary process of Internet. As far as Internet History is concerned, J.C.R Licklider was the first one to give the idea of establishing a universal network of communication in 1962. This sowed the seed of development of Internet. Internet was invented primarily to benefit the exchange of vital information amongst the computer researches of different Universities.

Evolution of Arpanet

According to the Internet History , ARPANET was initially the name used for Internet. ARPANET was developed by of Robert Taylor. In 1969, the very first Arpanet connection became operational in the University of California. It connected the computers of four renowned Universities – UCLA, Stanford Research Institute, UCSB and the University of Utah. It was within Arpanet itself that the concept of E-mail was included for the first time.

Changeover to Internet

It was in 1974 that the term “Internet” began to be used for Arpanet. This term was given a formal approval by the Internet Transmission Control Protocol and also term gained instant popularity.

Increased Usage

During all these period, Internet was very rarely used because it was only financed by the Government. However, the scenario changed from 1990 onwards and Internet began to be randomly used. The reason behind this is that it was only in the 1990's that a number of privately owned commercial networking centers grew up.

Thus, Internet History helps to better understand the different important paths through which Internet has developed.
