SkyEurope


The ex-Slovakian airline SkyEurope started working in 2001 and concluded operations in 2009. It was once regarded among the prominent economy airlines in Europe and primarily offered short-distance flights within the continent.


SkyEurope History

SkyEurope was established in November 2001. Its operations started on 13th February 2002 and folded up on 1st September 2009 after registering for bankruptcy on 31st August 2009. At the time of its closing its acting CEO was Nick Manoudakis who succeeded Jason Bitter.

SkyEurope Details

The Slovak carrier primarily dealt with chartered and scheduled services over short distances. As per a survey conducted within August 2007 to July 2008 by Skytrax Research, it was the leading budget airline in Eastern Europe and third best across Europe.

SkyEurope operated from three main bases – MR Stefanik Airport, Vienna International Airport and Ruzyne Airport. It was headquartered at Bratislava in Slovakia. Its buy on board facility was named SkyEurope Delights, which offered food for sale.

It had 13 aircraft and offered flights to 30 destinations across 17 countries in Europe – Austria, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, Bulgaria, Portugal, Croatia, Romania, Cyprus, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Spain, Denmark, Turkey, France, United Kingdom and Greece.
