Air Namibia was set up under the name South West Air Transport in 1946, turning into Suidwes Lugdiens in 1959. Air Namib merged with it and the airlines was renamed in 1978. The present name, Air Namibia, was adopted in 1991 after independence of the country. Air Namibia is the National Airlines of Namibia.
