    Aung San Suu Kyi warns military to respect will of the people

    Nov 10, 2015 - Opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, whose party has won a historic election, has warned the military of the country that the will of the people must be respected. She said that the people of the country will not stand for any obstruction to the election results. Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy had overwhelmingly won the elections in 1990; however, the military refused to allow the transfer of power.

    Nov 09, 2015 - Myanmar's opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi urged the people to stay calm ahead of the official announcement of results of Sunday's parliamentary election. Addressing a crowd waiting outside the National League for Democracy (NLD) headquarters in Yangon to monitor the results of the general election, Suu Kyi said her party wishes to march forward without discrimination with goodwill for all in the country, Xinhua reported. Suu Kyi, who is NLD chairperson and a parliamentarian, won in the general election securing a seat in the house of representatives. The official election result was expected to be released by the Union Election Commission later on Monday. The ruling USDP has fielded 1,122 candidates, while the NLD has 1,123 nominees in the running. Source: IANS
