Provinces of China first established during the Yuan Dynasty, relate to the administrative division of China. There were initially 10 provinces of china, which were increased to 18 by the Qing Dynasty. At present China controls a total of 22 provinces with each province having its own Communist Party of China provincial committee.

China at present is divided into 22 provinces (sheng), 5 autonomous regions (zizihiqu) and 4 municipalities (shih) running under a direct control of the central government. The country also comprises of 2 autonomous regions i.e. Hong Kong and Macau. China also claims its reign over Taiwan and calls it, its 23 province.
