About the East Coast States Map

This East Coast States Map shows the seventeen states found all along the Atlantic coast of the US. This area has several other names—including the Atlantic Coast, the Eastern Seaboard, and the Atlantic Seaboard.

About these states

The East Coast plays a very significant role in the history of the United States. The original thirteen colonies, under British rule were all found along the East Coast—namely: Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Connecticut, Massachusetts Bay, Maryland, South Carolina, New Hampshire, Virginia, New York, North Carolina, and Rhode Island.

Climatic Conditions

There are three climate regions along the East Coast. From the southern part of Maine through Philadelphia, the area experiences a temperate climate, and from Washington DC, to the northern Florida, the region experiences a subtropical climate. South Florida is the warmest of the coastal states, with a tropical climate.

The East Coast receives a good amount of rain throughout the year, and this holds true for snow as well, as the northern areas in the East Coast experience snow from three-to-five months in any given year.

Important Landmark destinations in the region

Because the East Coast plays such an important role in US history, it’s full of places to visit. Some popular attractions are; the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, and the Brooklyn Bridge in New York; the White House, the Capitol Building, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Washington Monument in DC, the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia—and in Florida there are the Everglades, and Disneyworld & EPCOT center in Orlando.

Geography of East Coast states

The geography of the coastal states plays into four separate seasons, and East Coast citizens get to enjoy nature in all its different stages throughout the year.

One season that draws are great many visitors is the Fall. This is due the changing colors of the leaves in the trees. Starting in Maine, and slowly moving on down to Georgia, many people plan their vacations around ‘peak’ fall colors.

Much of the northeastern area is mountainous, two notable places in particular are; the Green Mountains (Vermont), and the White Mountains (New Hampshire).

People and Culture

People who live in the East Coast can be friendly and helpful, although it may take a little while before they warm up. They are generally very direct, and so when you ask a question, be prepared for a straight, if not blunt, answer. The culture is often more fast paced than in the more laid-back West Coast—in fact, there is a running joke about how fast East Coast-ers walk in the streets of Boston, or New York City.

The dress code can be considered ‘formal,’—business attire is very much standard for meetings.

The arts are very much alive and well in the East Coast, with a rich tradition in theater, opera, ballet, and music in all of the major cities. Some of the best and oldest schools for the arts are found in this part of the US.

Population

The East Coast is more densely populated than the other parts of the United States, coming in at 117.1 million in 2016—in fact, this is the coastal area with the largest population on the map. The population is still growing, and growing more diverse, as different families from all over the world are making the East Coast their home.

Economy

The center of banking and finance in the US can be found in the East Coast, and New York specifically. Home to the NASDAQ, as well as the largest stock exchange in the country, the NYSE, are here. A long list of ‘titans of industry,’ are located on the East Coast—from pharmaceutical companies to telecommunications, as well as global insurance, media, and manufacturing companies.

National Parks

The National Parks in the East Coast are a must-see for any visitor.

The East Coast has some of the most visited National Parks in the county.

As mentioned, the Everglades in Florida are popular, but there’s Shenandoah National Park, stretching for 105 miles and encompasses part of the Appalachian Mountains.

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Mammoth Cave National Park, and Acadia National Park, among others the most visiting in the county.
