Lijiang City

The antique city of Lijiang in Yunnan is found in Dayan Town. It is located on a plateau at a height of 2,600m. This place is highly impressive because of its scenery and flourishing vegetation. It is a Naxi minority city. In Lijiang, Yunnan Naxi settlement was first built during the Southern Song Dynasty, that is some eight centuries ago.
Naxi is a group of minority culture people originating from Tibet. Lijiang, in Yunnan is perhaps the best maintained old town in China. In this place you can witness and experience a historic, traditional urban culture of the country. UNESCO has put Lijiang in China on a list of the world major cultural heritages.

Recently Lijiang in Yunnan has gone through a massive earthquake in which all the newly built concrete buildings were flattened, but not the old houses of Lijiang. Amazingly, the old houses with stone foundations, plastered whitewashed brick walls, red wooden doors, shutters and balconies, and sloping tiled roofs, survived without much damage in this sudden earthquake attack. In Lijiang, Yunnan you can find the Black Dragon Pool , which is a nice park with some interesting temples. Here you can also get a great view of the nearby Jade Dragon Snow Mountains.
