Located in the eastern part of north-central United States of America, Indiana has a total area of 36,185 square miles,

which includes 35,932 square miles of total land area and 253 square miles of inland water area. In terms of total area, Indiana is the 38th largest of the 50 states of the USA. The Indiana State Map prominently marks the neighboring states. Indiana shares its northern border with Michigan, eastern border with Ohio, southern and southeastern border with Kentucky and western border with Illinois. The total length of the boundary is 1,696 miles. Indiana stretches over 160 miles in the east-west direction and 280 miles in the north-south direction. Situated at an altitude of 1,257 feet, the Hoosier Hill of Wayne County is the highest point. The lowest point is the Ohio River, with an altitude of 320 feet. Indiana is drained by several rivers and lakes. Wabash River, Tippecanoe River, Ohio River, and White River are some of the notable rivers of the state while Mississinewa and Michigan are the important lakes.
