History of Kentucky Flag
The Kentucky Flag was officially adopted in the year 1918, but it took some 10 years to decide upon the final design. Thus the Kentucky Flag was given a proper look in 1928 and accepted by the General Assembly. However the Kentucky Flag was modified again in 1962. Kentucky became the 15th state of the Union in 1792.
Description of Kentucky Flag
The proportions of the Kentucky Flag can fluctuate, but its length should always be one and nine-tenths times the breadth of the flag. The seal should have a diameter that is about two-thirds the breadth of the flag. For the material of the flag, anything from silk, wool, cotton to nylon, can be used. The Kentucky Flag has a navy blue background, the center of which bears the seal and the phrase “Commonwealth of Kentucky”. These letters are either painted, embroidered, stamped or printed. Encircling the lower half of the seal is a semicircular wreath of blooming goldenrod. Written on the seal are the words of the state motto, “United We Stand, Divide We Fall.”
Symbolism of Kentucky Flag
The 2 men in the seal, who are the statesman and the pioneer are actually enacting the meaning of the state motto. The goldenrod around the seal is the state flower of Kentucky.
The gentlemen depicted on the Kentucky Flag do great justice to the thought-provoking motto of the state.
