Maine Museums

The Maine Museums Map indicates the several museums, archives and archeological centers of the state. The towns of Patten, Orono, Columbia Falls, Augusta, Waterville, Cape Elizabeth, Lewiston, Portland, Brunswick, Kennebunkport and Rockland houses many museums and archives that portray the unique cultural heritage and rich art work of the place. The Abbe Museum of Bar Harbor reflects the unique traditional legacy of the American society. The Alfred Village museum of Alfred was originally a fire station of the area which was later transformed into a museum. The Acadian Archives of Fort Kent is a vast store house of manuscripts, journals and books that speaks at length about the folk culture, traditions and folklores of the place. The Amherst Historical Society of Salisbury Cove displays the family photographs and family histories of renowned personalities of the State of Maine. The Alexander-Crawford Historical Society of Alexander is another prominent museum that reflects the rich cultural traditions of the state. The Bangor Historical Society of Bangor portrays the unique social and cultural heritgae of the Penobscot River Valley through seminars, exhibitions and lectures.
