Croatia Flag

The Croatia Flag was officially adopted on December 21, 1990 after Croatia got independence from Yugoslavia. When Croatia was a part of Yugoslavia, it had a five-pointed red star with a yellow border instead of the coat of arms. However, the red-white-blue tricolor which has been in use in the flag of Croatia since 1848 had remained the same. The red star was replaced by the coat of arms in May of 1990 in the Croatia flag picture. The red, white and blue are the pan-Slav colors while the shields represent the five regions- Ancient Croatia, Dubrovnik, Dalmatia, Istria and Slavonia. The red and white checks on the coat of arms are Croatian symbols.
