Pre-Bulgarian Civilizations constitutes of a group of people belonging to the Caucasians, a part of the Indo-European Family. The Ancient Bulgarians were also known as Thracians and originating from Central part of Asia had migrated to the land of Bulgaria and settled down there. Bulgaria, the cradle of one of the oldest civilizations of Europe, served as the homeland of the Thracians.
The ancient Bulgarians of the Pre-Bulgarian Civilizations were quite advanced in matters of statehood, society, arts, culture, religion, science, philosophy, etc. The extensive knowledge of the ancient Bulgarians is observed in all spheres of life. The concept of statehood based on tolerance and justice, a free labor based society and the abolition of slavery featured in the Pre-Bulgarian Civilizations.
The profound philosophy of the ancient Bulgarians is reflected in the religious beliefs of the people. The philosophical concept of the unity of the universe(Tan), man(Nak) and god(Ra) as the basic tenet of ancient Bulgarian religion was unique. The ancient Bulgarians also designed the astronomically perfect solar calender.
Pre-Bulgarian Civilization reached the peak of its glory in the 6th and 7th century. Previously known as Great Bulgaria, the land was divided into two parts after the death of Kan Koubrat, the then head of the state. Of the two kingdoms, Volga Bulgaria and Danubian Bulgaria, the former was wiped out during the following years.
