2016 Summer Olympic Games will be held from 5 Aug to 21st Aug 2016 at Rio De Janeiro, Brazil

Brazil is the largest country in South America. Its capital is Brasilia. Brazil got its name from "brazilwood", which is a tree that was used to grow along the coast of Brazil. Rio de Janeiro is the
second largest city of Brazil and is one of the most beautiful city in the world. It is known as the cide maravilhosa or "The Marvellous city” because of its mixture of natural beauty in the form of long sandy beaches and urban architecture.

Olympics is an international multi sport event held in every four years. Rio de Janerio will host the next olympiad, the 2016 summer olympics games. It is scheduled to be held from 5th August to 21st August , 2016. This is the first olympics to be held in South America. It is a big opportunity as well as challenge for Brazil to prove its excellence in organising world class events. The paralympics will also be held in Rio de Janerio from 7th September to 18th September.

There will be 28 sports and 38 disciplines in the upcoming olympic games. More than 10,500 athletes from 205 participating nations are expected to take part in this game.

Rio Summer Olympics Games Logo :
The 2016 summer olympics symbol showcases the olympic spirit , the harmonious diversity, the natural beauty and contagious energy. The olympics logo resembles three figures in yellow, blue and green in a triple hug joined at the arms as representing Suarloaf Mountain. The main theme of the games will be "Live your passion."

The 2016 Summer Olympic programme features 28 sports and a total of 42 disciplines.

2016 Brazil Summer Olympics Games Venues :

The Olympic Venues truly display the Brazilian spirit , art and culture in its unique essence display the Olympic spirit. The Venues are artistically and asthetically impressive. The infrastructural development for the Olympic games is really impressive .

There are 34 competition venues where olympics events are going to be held out of these there are 18 venues that are currently operating. 7 venues will be temporary while 9 venues will be built.

The games will be held in four zones :
Barra Zone : It is the heart of the games hosting most of the olympics venues including the Olympic village and the media center.
Copacabana Zone : It is World famous beach and is a major tourist place.
Maracana Zone : It contains the Maracana stadium . It will host the opening and closing ceremonies of the games.
Deodoro Zone : It contains some of the main venues in which some of the events are going

2016 Summer Olympic Games Mascot : The mascots are important message transmission vehicles for the world's largest sports event, especially for children and young people. It is essential to the spectator experience, the mascot reflects the host country identity and culture.

Health experts urge WHO to consider postponing or relocating Rio Olympics

Around 150 health experts, including a former White House science adviser, urged the World Health Organization on Friday to consider postponing or moving Rio Olympics because of the Zika outbreak. The experts issued an open letter to the U.N. health agency, citing recent scientific evidence of the devastating impact of Zika virus. 

 

Rio Olympics 2016: Maria Sharapova named in Russian squad

Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova, who was provisionally suspended by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), has been named in the Russian team for the Rio Olympics 2016. Sharapova is barred from participating in any event. Other than Sharapova, three other female players – Svetlana Kuznetsova, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, and Darya Kasatkina – were provisionally named by the Russian Tennis Federation (RTF). They will all compete in women's singles event.

Ahead of Rio Olympics, 23 tested positives in retests of London Olympics samples

The IOC has revealed on Friday that 23 athletes have tested positive in reanalysis of their doping samples from 2012 London Olympics. The results were announced after retesting 265 samples. Without naming the athletes, the IOC said that the athletes represent five sports and six countries. The retests were targeted at athletes who were hoping to compete at the Rio Olympics in August. Earlier, 31 athletes from the 2008 Beijing Olympics were caught in retests of samples.

Rio Olympics: Estonian sisters to be the first identical triplets to run marathon

Three Estonian sisters, who are identical triplets, are all set to compete against each other at Rio Olympics. Marathon running sisters – Leila, Liina and Lily Luik – will become the first identical triplets to compete against each other in Summer Olympics. Estonia will count on these sprinters when they cross the start line for the women’s marathon in Rio.

British athlete Goldie Sayers to withdraw from Rio Olympics if Russia takes part

British javelin record holder Goldie Sayers has considered not to compete at Rio Olympics in August if Russian athletes are allowed to take part. Allegations of state-organized doping have led to the banning of Russian athletes from international competition. While Russian sports minister Vitaly Mutko said that the ban should be lifted, he doesn't have much hope.
