The national flag of Iran was officially adopted on July 29, 1980. The Iran Flag is consists of three equal horizontal stripes of three different colors, namely green, white and red.

The green color of the national flag of Iran represents Islam; white symbolizes peace, and red means courage. In the centre of the flag of Iran there is a symbol which symbolizes the five principles of Islam.

The white stylized script repeated 22 times on the red and green stripe of the flag of Iran, interprets the Islamic phrase Allahu Akbar, which means "God is greater than to be described." On the centre of the white stripe of the Iran flag there is a sword which is representative of the country's strength.

Location: In south Western Asia Iran is bounded by the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Omanoto the South Afghanistan and Pakistan to the east the former USSR to the north and Iraq and Turkey to the west.

Area: 1,678,195 Sq. km.
