Morocco President




Morocco is ruled by a constitutional monarchic system of governance. The position of Morocco President is held by the King himself. The current monarch is King Mohammed VI.
He ascended the throne on 23rd July 1999.

King Mohammed VI functions as Morocco President in all aspects of governance. The President of Morocco wields extensive powers. King Mohammed VI is a political leader and also holds high religious authority in the North African country. The King appoints the Prime Minister of Morocco. He also appoints members of the Moroccan government. The King is also the supreme commander of the military forces of Morocco. The King has sweeping powers over all aspects of rule in the country. He is capable of dissolving the parliament, dismiss any minister and even suspend the constitution.

The titular Morocco President has extended powers over the legislative wing of the government. The Parliamentary legislature is of two parts. The Assembly of Councilors has a total of 270 members. The Assembly of Representatives has 325 members. The Representatives enjoy a 5-year term. The Councilors stay for 9 years before they may be re-elected. The Parliament of Morocco may approve discretionary public spending and question ministers on their official duties.
