Italy is a country which celebrates some unique festivals and events. The sophistication and the royalty of the country are reflected through its festivals and special events. Italy celebrates its historical event, religious holidays in its own unique way.
Christmas is an important festival of Italy. It is celebrated with great pomp and show. The celebration of the Christmas season continues from 24 th January to 6 th of January. Italy begins its Christmas celebration with Saturnalia which is a winter solstice festival. Christmas ends with Calends which is the Roman New year. On 8 th of December the feast day of Immaculate Conception is celebrated. The roads are decorated with lights and Christmas trees. The Presepe, Navity scene and the Creche is decorated to rejoice the birth of Christ. On Christmas Eve the people of Italy eat a vegan dinner .On the Christmas night meat is eaten. Conventional bonfires are a must in the main square of the town.
Easter which is known as Pasqua in Italy is also a major celebration. Processions and masses are take place just before the Easter. Statues of Jesus and Mary are paraded in the processions. The people of Italy wear traditional dresses. Olive branches are used to decorate the churches. On Good Friday a large procession comes down on the streets wearing traditional dresses. The Easter food is very special. Lamb, artichokes and breads items are prepared for Easter. Dance, games and functions are held on Easter Monday.
The Fish festival of Saint Fortunato is celebrated on the Second Sunday of May. The festival takes place in the fishing village of Camogli.
Throughout the year Italy celebrates some or the other festivals or events.
