Lithuania at 2016 Rio Olympics
Lithuania is scheduled to take part in 2016 Rio Olympics from August 5-21. Rio 2016 will be Lithuania's seventh consecutive appearance at the Olympic Games in the post-Soviet era and the ninth overall appearance is the Summer Olympics' history. They made their debut in 1924 and also took part in the 1928 edition. This was followed by a long absence (from 1932 to 1988). The nation participated in the 1992 Olympic Games, and since then, the country made consecutive appearances.
Medals won
In the history of the Olympic Games, Lithuania has managed to rake in an impressive 21 medals. The nation is ranked 58th in the overall medal count. The total gold medal count is six with two of them won during the 2012 London Olympics. It has won five silver medals with two won during the 2008 games and one during the 2012 Olympics. Lithuania has 10 bronze medals to its name.
Players and Events in 2016
Lithuania will be represented by 68 athletes who will compete in 16 different disciplines. In total, the contingent will include 47 men who will participate in 14 sports. A team of 21 women athletes will participate in eight events, including athletics, badminton, cycling, rowing, sailing, and swimming. With so much at stake, the Lithuanian team is one to watch out for at the Rio Olympics.
