Amiens is prefecture of the Somme departement. The city is known as the Picarde capital of France. The main centrepiece of the city is the Gothic Cathedral that was built between 1220 and 1270. The city iss also known for its studenty atmosphere. Amiens suffered serious damage during World War I and World War II. The city was the central settlement of the Ambiani (one of the principal tribes of Gaul).
