Significance of Placetas
It is important to note that Placetas was initially accorded the status of a town in 1881. It was only in 1925, that this Cuban destination was declared to be a city. It holds great economic significance for the whole of Cuba because it is regarded as the commercial hub due to its prosperous hinterlands. It is the main processor of tobacco. Sugarcane and fruits are also processed at the main city. Large amount of goods are being exported every year. The Port of Caribbean is the main way through which products are being sent out of the city.

Some of the important "barrios" are Cabecera, Guaracabulla, Tibisial, and San Andreas Sitio Potrero. Another important fact about Placetas is that it is one of the municipalities in the Villa Clara Province for an area of about 561km 2. San Atanasio de Placetas is the main church of Placestas.
