Slovenia sports is extremely enjoyed by the people of the country. Writings and other sources of history shows that Slovenia has a long history of sporting activities, beginning from the Middle Ages. Shooting, hunting, boating, fishing and a host of other activities were the common sports in Slovenia during the Middle Ages. In the present times, the numerous sports clubs of Slovenia are the main patrons of Sports in the country.
Among the various types of Slovenian sports, football is quite popular. The entire country was captured in a mood of ecstasy, when the national football team of Slovenia won the qualifying match to the European Championships held in the year 2000. The 2002 Football World Cup also saw the participation of the Slovene football team.

Representing the country in Olympics and other World Championship Tournaments, he has won several gold, silver and bronze medals. Other noteworthy names of Slovene gymnasts include Mitja Petkovšek and Aljaž Pegan.
Slovenia sports also includes skiing, volleyball, dance sport, ski jumping, handball, rowing, paragliding and basketball. The Slovene rowers have won gold and silver at the Olympics as well as at the World rowing Championships. Slovenia sport also features world famous mountaineers and athletes.
