San Carlos City lies at the southeastern corner of Lake Nicaragua near the Coata Rican border. It is a small city and everything is in walking distance. There are two sites to be seen, Malecon, where sundowns are a sight to behold and the Fort.


San Carlos is a beautiful small town of Nicaragua, which once served as a very important port town of the country. San Carlos is considered as one of the most popular tourist destinations in the region. The town is full of several attractive historical monuments as well as amazing natural splendors.

Location of San Carlos

San Carlos is located on the coast where the San Juan River meets Lake Nicaragua. The town is a part of the department of Rio San Juan.

Tourist Attractions in San Carlos

San Carlos is home to some of the most fascinating tourist destination of Nicaragua. The San Carlos Fort is the most visited sites in San Carlos. It is the highest structure of the town from where the amazing site of the entire town and the Nicaragua Lake can be observed. The fort is now used as the base of Jose Coronel Urtecho Cultural Centre. The San Carlos Fort also features a platform for hosting various events. Malecon is a place where tourists flock to taste the delicious local dishes of fresh fish. One of the busiest parts of the town is the port where a market place is situated. In this market tourists can buy various types fresh products such as fruits and vegetables.
