Being a West African country Cameroon covers total 475,440 sq km area. The geographical coordinates of the country are 600 N and 1200 E. According to Cameroon Topography, Cameroon is divided into four geographical regions. The western low lands are about 100 km in width. It extends along the Gulf of Guinea coast.
Cameroon Topography shows that the northwestern highlands are almost 2,440 m in height. It is mainly consisted of the forested volcanic mountains. The highest peak of West Africa, Mount Cameroon stands on the south coast. It is the only active volcano of the nation. It is around 4,095 m high.
The central plateau covers a huge area. It extends from the northwest highlands to the border of the Central African Republic, from the western lowlands to eastwards and from the northward to the Benue River. Topography of Cameroon reveals that this area includes Adamawa Plateau which is nearly 900 to 1500 m in height.
It is interesting to note that here you will be able to notice the transition from forest to savanna. The northern region that inclines down to the Chad Basin is consisted of a savanna plain. You can find two rivers in this region. One is Benue, which is navigable throughout the year and the other is Sanaga, which is not navigable.
