The New Zealand cricket team, more famously known as the "Black Caps", is a strong contender for the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup. With a slow start, taking 27 years to win its first Test match,
the team's gradual improvement towards perfection, over the years, has seen it deliver excellent performances in recent matches.

Since then, New Zealand has become a challenging cricket-playing nation in the world, organizing Test tours, One Day Internationals, as well as domestic cricket, and is highly acclaimed in the cricket circuit. As per the current LG ICC Test Championship Ratings, the New Zealand team has played 28 matches, ranked 7 th in the world; whilst as per the LG ICC ODI Championships Ratings, played 31 matches, with a rating of 5 th amongst the world's best cricket playing nations.

New Zealand Cricket, formerly the New Zealand Cricket Board, is the governing body for professional cricket in New Zealand. While New Zealand would be led in the World Cup by Captain Stephen Fleming, the expertise of veteran Nathan Astle would be missed, owing to his retirement from International Cricket. New Zealand has announced its squad for the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup which is listed below:
