The USA has been playing cricket from the 18 th century. They played their first international match in 1844 against Canada . However, towards the end of the 19 th century its popularity declined gradually.
The reason for this is that the game remained as an amateur sport here while it had become a professional game elsewhere. Baseball gradually replaced its popularity. After a gap of more than a hundred years the game was revived in this country. They took part in the ICC Six Nations Challenge Tournament and won it. As a result they qualified for the Champions trophy in 2004 and played their first One-Day International against New Zealand . They, however, failed to qualify for the 2007 World Cup.
