The Republic of Austria is located in Central Europe. It covers an area of 32,337 square miles. As of 2011, the population of Austria was 8,414,638. As shown in the Austria Political Map, the country is bordered by Czech Republic and Germany to the north, Slovakia and Hungary to the east, Slovenia and Italy to the south, and Switzerland and Liechtenstein to the west.

The 1920 constitution of Austria states that the nation is a federal, parliamentary, and democratic republic. The Federal President is the head of the state and is elected by popular vote. Heinz Fischer is the current President of Austria and Werner Faymann is the Chancellor of the nation.
