Uganda politics works in a country that has democratic government. Naturally Uganda politics has all the features that a democratic government has in other countries. But in Uganda there are some difference in the whole political system that are not noticed in the democratic government systems of other countries. This difference is not a special feature of the Uganda politics, but it indicates towards the political problems that this East African country has faced through many years.
One of the main aspects of Uganda politics is that, for a long time there was no political party in Uganda. This step was taken by the contemporary government in order to bring an end to the political violence in this country. This restriction was imposed on the political parties in the 1986. But from 2005 there have been again the presence of several political parties in the political scenario of the country, as the new government canceled the former law and bring in the multi party system. During the long period of ban on political party, there had been only one political organization in Uganda, which is known by the name of 'Movement' led by Museveni. In the presidential election of 2006, Museveni has become the president of Uganda.
Uganda politics works in a presidential political environment. Naturally the president of this country is the head of the main political institution of this country. The President of Uganda is the head of both the state and the government of this country.
